After researching various builders, a decision was made by Fourth Presbyterian to build a unique organ combining the expertise of Austin Organ Company, of Hartford, Connecticut, and Allen Organ Company, of Macungie, Pennsylvania. What the two companies jointly produced is stunning. The organ boasts 45 ranks of pipes and 24 digital ranks. The beautiful four-manual Allen console includes walnut drawknobs and pedals. The naturals are imported from Germany and are made of Ivora. The console is moveable and can be easily connected and disconnected with a plug-Allen made use of fiber optic technology to connect the console to the rest of the organ with only a single cable. The new antiphonal division has been a great help in the leading of congregation hymn singing. Extensive renovation work provided room for the new larger console and ensured that the instrument speaks into the room more effectively than the original organ it replaces.
