RECENT VISIT: The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Ife, Nigeria, visits Allen Organ

In November, The Rt. Rev. Oluranti Odubogun, The Anglican Bishop of Ife Diocese in Ife, Nigeria, visited the Allen Organ factory for one day excursion.

Accompanied by long-time Allen Organ Nigerian representative, Lanre Delano, Bishop Odubogun toured the Allen factory as Allen Organ President Steve Markowitz explained the process and the materials used in building an Allen Organ.

Along the way, Bishop Odubogun selected certain items, like drawknob wood type and engraving style, to customize the Bravura™ L-451 organ that will be created and installed in the newly built Cathedral of St. Phillip (Anglican Communion) Ile Ife Osun state in South West Nigeria. This Cathedral replaces the Old Cathedral Church and this organ will be the fourth, and largest, Allen Organ in this Diocese.

IN CONCERT: Allen Organ's 19th Annual Holiday Show Was Sold Out!

For the past nineteen years, the Allen Organ Sales Staff, along with some real close friends, have presented a Holiday Show Concert to the local community. This year was exceptional with sold-out audiences at all four performances. The proceeds from the show are donated to local music schools and other charities.
This year's event included performances from the Quakertown High School Varsity Singers; Kutztown High School Show Choir; The Community Music School; and The Lehigh Valley Charter High School For The Arts Touring Choir. The shows lasted over 2 hours each, and feedback from those that attended has been overwhelming!

INSTALLATION: Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church, Bourbonnais, Illinois
Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church is the oldest church in the Kankakee-Bourbonnais area in Illinois. It was built in the mid-1800s and has housed numerous organs throughout its history. Their old organ had seen better days, and was deemed irreparable. Inviting comments and suggestions from the parish community, it was unanimously decided to invest in a new digital organ, one that would provide more versatility to Maternity B.V.M.'s growing music ministry, and uphold the French heritage of the church.

Lee Maloney, Allen Representative in the Bourbonnais area, was contacted. A French Terrace console design was recommended and a 58-Stop Allen combination organ was selected as the organ of choice.

When asked to comment about the process of designing and selecting a new organ, Fr. Richard Pighini C.S.V., Pastor of Maternity B.V.M. replied, "Our new organ is beautiful to hear, beautiful to see, and working in collaboration with the Allen Organ Company, was a beautiful experience."

Chris Lord, Director of Music and Liturgy, shared some insights on a unique stop added to their new instrument.

"Because of the historic Catholic and French heritage of Maternity B.V.M., plus the beauty it exhibits, we pursued a combination pipe and digital French Terrace console that blended well with the church décor. We also chose to have a Festival Trumpet incorporated into our instrument for weddings, and named that stop the "Les Trompette Des Fondateurs", honoring all of our founding lay parishioners, Viatorians and Sisters. We are very fortunate to have an instrument that allows us to continue to pray in song and as a choir; as an assembly. It's been wonderful and it's important to our parish!"

FROM OUR READERS: In-Home Installation
I particularly enjoyed seeing the Allen Organ home installations in the current (October/November edition) e-notes. My wife and I have been Allen Organ fans since we purchased our first Allen Continental Carousel back in about 1975.

Then, in 2010, we acquired an Allen GW-319 and most recently, an Allen GW-4Q. Both the GW-319 and the GW-4Q were installed in our home in Littleton, Colorado, by Mike Barnhill. We think that Mike did a wonderful job and thought that you might like to see our Allen home organ installation.

We've never been disappointed by any Allen product or by any of Allen's associates. I think that it's a life-long love affair.

Best wishes,
Bruce Spangler

NEWS: Allen Organ Studios London provides organ for Weldmar Hospice fundraiser
Choirs from Sherborne School for Girls and The Gryphon School serenaded thousands of passengers for a benefit concert at London's Waterloo Station on December 10th. Over 100 pupils took part at the busiest station in the country while volunteers collected donations from the public for the Weldmar Hospice fundraising event.

Singing to commuters and travelers at the station, the choirs were accompanied by an organ and brass band who played a mix of traditional and modern carols. They sang during the busiest hours of the day between 4pm and 7pm.

Not only were more than 100 students, staff, and supporters from Sherborne Girls and The Gryphon School transported from Sherborne to London and back, but for the first time ever, with the help of Allen Organ Studios London, UK, a full size organ played on the concourse too! Thousands of London's commuters and travelers received an unexpected and uplifting musical reminder of the meaning of Christmas.
