Allen featured in Custom Woodworking Business magazine

Allen Organ Company was recently featured in an article entitled "Sweet Sounds of Success" in the January issue of Custom Woodworking Business magazine. The two page article has Production Manager, Dan Hummel, describing some of Allen's vertical integration processes within the facility:

"Allen is also the most vertically integrated organ manufacturer in the world. Besides building our own wood cabinetry, the company assembles high-tech circuit boards with the latest surface mount technology. This high level of vertical integration enables the company the utmost control of quality and the flexibility to make changes relatively quickly, as demanded by our customers."

For those interested in woodworking machinery, the article also describes some of the top name equipment used within Allen Organs in the making of organ consoles.

European Oak Custom Console Project

Since our last e-notes issue, the console for this project is standing very tall on its own and has progressed quite nicely! The final steps have been completed to the console's construction. Currently the organ electronics specified for this organ are being installed.

Q215T 13 Rank/Two-Manual Theatre Organ

Allen Organ Company recently introduced the Q215T Theatre Organ, successor to the Q211T. This exciting instrument isn't just one organ; it's actually three complete theatre organs plus a classical organ, all in one console! In the past, many Allen theatre models included the capacity to voice the one theatre stop list in three different ways, but the Q215T takes versatility to a whole new level! It includes a complete list, each, of a Mighty Wurlitzer, a Golden-Voiced Barton and a Symphonic Morton, as well as a complete classical specification. It also has a larger specification than its predecessor.

And the sound is unbelievable! The Q215T features a multi-channel full-range internal audio system, dedicated acoustic enhancement speakers and patented Acoustic Dimension™ technology.

The Q215T also comes with a Persian Cymbal, Siren, Train Whistle, Horn, Bell Tree, and a Bird Tweet!

Look for the Q215T ad that will run in the May/June issue of Theatre Organ magazine.

Macalester College, St. Paul, MN, Mairs Concert Hall, Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center

In July 2010, then Director of Choral Activities and conductor, Eugene Rogers, and College Provost and Dean of the Faculty, Kathleen Murray; contacted Allen dealer Christopher Wallace, of Allen Organs of the Twin Cities, Inc., and expressed an interest in the possibility of an Allen organ for their new concert hall.

The college was about to embark on a monumental reconstruction project of their primary music facility, the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center, which included the Janet Wallace Auditorium, now the Mairs Concert Hall. The hall housed an older Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, Op. 1446 from 1964 that was in unfortunate disrepair. The college decided that the costs of repair and for relocation within the new hall were prohibitive. Dr. Rogers had previous experience and respect for the quality and sound of the Allen organ, and this, combined with the desire for organ accompanied choral works and potential solo organ concerts, became a driving force in obtaining their new Allen, a 58-Stop, Q370. Christopher Wallace was directly involved with the designer/contractor in the early stages in preparing the hall for the instrument.

The audio is laid out conveniently over two levels, allowing for ample tonal spread and defined divisional locations, not dissimilar to certain ideals of the German Werkprinzip. The new hall, while not extremely large with a seating capacity of c. 375, offers a warm, rich oak wood aesthetic, and the acoustic environment is fantastic with controllable sound curtains following the circumference of the room. The console moves/stores easily on an Allen split-dolly on either side of the stage. For performance flexibility, custom cannon plug connectors on either side of the stage were installed, and the console has a generous custom wiring harness. The instrument was installed in the Summer of 2012, just prior to the newly completed Fine Art Center's inauguration. Dedication concerts are forthcoming.

Christopher Wallace stated, "We are grateful to Dr. Eugene Rogers, Dr. Kathleen Murray, and Macalester College for their confidence in our dealership and are honored that they chose an Allen organ for their stunning new concert hall and Fine Arts Center."
